Michael Vick Is A Monster, As Is Anyone Who Supports Him

Another import from Facebook:

Michael Dixon wants you to remember, as he sits here cuddling his adorable puppy, that Michael Vick is a piece of sub-human garbage who should be shunned and vilified by all members of decent society -- as is anyone who supports or defends his murderous cruelty that was directed at the weakest, most vulnerable members of our families.

Now Tell Us How You REALLY Feel

This is one of the most commented-upon posts I've made on Facebook this month, so I thought I'd share it with you. It really led to a lot of great discussion there; I'd be thrilled if it did so here, as well.

Barack Obama announced this month that he still opposes the right of gay people to marry, but some of his best friends are gays, so his position is "evolving." Really? It's 2010. If I announced today that, based on my interpretation of the Bible, Obama should be owned as a slave -- but because some of my best friends are black, my position is "evolving" -- would I be hailed as a hero, or denounced as a hateful bigot?

Gay Obama Appointee Sued for Denying Health Benefits to Lesbian Employee

Oral arguments were heard in California today in the case called "Golinski v. United States Office of Personnel Management and John Berry, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, in his official capacity."  Did I mention that John Berry is a gay man and the highest-ranking openly gay Obama appointee, who is working to deny health benefits to the lesbian partner of a 19-year government employee?  Just disgusting.

And no, before you bring it up in the comments section, I don't buy that he is "just doing his job" -- we all know where we've heard that argument before.  Berry should refuse to defend this case and FORCE Obama to fire him, rather than be a tool of Obama's oppression of his own people.

[What follows is a press release from Lamda Legal, reprinted in its entirety without editing, just FYI.]

Oral Arguments Delivered in Lambda Legal Case of Lesbian Denied Spousal Health Insurance by Federal Employer

"This case could result in the next major court ruling on the constitutionality of DOMA"

(San Francisco, December 17, 2010)—The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California heard oral arguments on Friday in a Lambda Legal lawsuit against the Obama Administration that may have major implications for the federal so-called Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA.

Lambda Legal and Morrison & Foerster LLP filed suit against the federal government earlier this year on behalf of Karen Golinski, a 19-year employee of the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Golinski seeks the same spousal health insurance for her wife, Amy Cunninghis, that heterosexual employees receive for their spouses. Golinski and Cunninghis have been together for 21 years. Golinski v. U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requests an order directing the agency to obey prior rulings by the Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals awarding the equal insurance benefits to Golinski. OPM should rescind its instruction to Golinski's insurer, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, not to enroll Golinski's wife in the family health insurance plan.

"This case could result in the next major court ruling on the constitutionality of DOMA," said Jennifer C. Pizer, Senior Counsel for Lambda Legal. "This began as a simple internal personnel matter; the irony is that the Obama Administration, through the decisions of OPM and the Department of Justice to assert DOMA as an excuse for the discriminatory treatment of Karen Golinski, has turned this into a challenge to DOMA itself."

The judge previously asked both sides to file additional legal briefs addressing, among other topics, whether or not DOMA violates the U.S. Constitution. Lambda Legal has explained that the law indeed is unconstitutional because it discriminates based on sex and sexual orientation and infringes on the fundamental right to privacy and respect for one's family relationships recognized by the Supreme Court in Lambda Legal's landmark case, Lawrence v. Texas.

"Judge White, both through his request for supplementary information during the briefing process and his questioning at today's hearing, seems keenly interested in how the Obama Administration now is defending DOMA, after having reached out to block benefits for Karen and Amy," said Pizer. "He seemed rightly skeptical of the government's argument that DOMA maintains 'consistency' in how the federal government allocates federal rights and benefits. Before DOMA, the federal government—consistently—respected all legal marriages, no matter what state issued the license or who married whom. Now, for the first time under DOMA, the government inconsistently distinguishes among legally married people, favoring heterosexuals and ignoring lesbians and gay men, and for no reasons other than ignorance, prejudice and anti-gay religious condemnation."

"Judge White also skewered another piece of twisted logic on OPM's part: that the Executive Branch agency's duty to negotiate contracts with insurance plans to cover federal workers somehow authorizes it to meddle in and to thwart individual enrollment decisions ordered by top managers of a different branch of the federal government. OPM's facilitation and support functions go nowhere that far."

Lambda Legal's Pizer represents Golinski together with Rita Lin, James McGuire, Gregory Dresser and Aaron Jones of Morrison & Foerster LLP.

The case is Golinski v. United States Office of Personnel Management and John Berry, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, in his official capacity.

Artist Pulls Photograph from National Portrait Gallery in Protest

I applaud this artist's decision to pull his photograph from the show at the National Portrait Gallery to protest the censorship of a gay artist whose video was censored at the insistence of the one lone homophobe who calls himself "The Catholic League," and echo his call that all other artists pull their work from the show as well.  Read an exceprt from the story below, and click the title to read the entire story at the Washington Post website.

Protesting video's removal, artist asks Portrait Gallery to take his work out of show
On Wednesday evening, just before the unveiling of one of his photographs in a prestigious show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Canadian artist AA Bronson took an unusual step: He asked another major museum, the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery, to take another print of the same work down.

Hey homos -- so what if you're willing to die for your country, you have the skills and training that this country desperately needs as it fights three wars, and the troops have told us over and over again that they want you on the battlefield and don't give a shit who you have waiting for you at home?

We are Republican legislators, and our irrational hatred and fear of gays and lesbians means that we're making it Federal law that you have to lie.  Sure, the armed services are supposed to be about honor, valor, courage, and all that other horseshit we gave up years ago when we sold our souls and realized that demonizing minorities was a good way to distract Bubba Joe and the boys from the fact that we're shipping their jobs overseas so fast we barely have any time left to give tax breaks to our billionaire buddies -- and ourselves.

But screw honor, valor and courage -- we'd rather have money and power, no matter what kind of hatred and bullshit backwards justification we have to spread around like fresh manure in order to get it!  We're too busy apologizing to BP for putting our beaches in the way of their oil to care about you people.  Go get killed fighting in our ridiculous wars that will eventually lead to the end of America -- just keep your pink, pansy pie-holes shut about your homofaggotry, and die quietly.

And for all of you who ran forward to help this country when terrorists unleashed the biggest act of war on the American mainland, well...ever...thanks for your help!  Now go crawl into a corner somewhere and choke to death on your own black lungs or something -- Jesus H. Christ on a popsicle stick, don't you people ever just go away?!?  You served your purpose on 9/11 and in the months afterward, and we're done with you.  It's OVER.  O V E R.  Stop calling.  Stop texting.  No, we don't want to see a movie with you Saturday night.  We used you.  Get it??  You served your purpose, and we tossed you on the heap of human garbage like yesterday's used Kleenex.

Honestly, what makes you think we'd have any use for you now?  You have cancers, you can't breathe right, you're coughing up a storm -- no thanks!!  We have mistresses and girlfriends in MUCH better shape, thank you (oh, and uh, I guess wives too)-- we're just not interested.  GET.  THE.  HINT.  And let this be a lesson to the rest of America -- when we're under attack, sure, we need you.  But don't go thinking it means we're in some kind of long-term relationship.  We're just not that into you.

Man Cured of HIV?

I was a professional AIDS Information Specialist working for the Centers for Disease Control, and I've been an activist on this issue, to a greater or lesser degree, for about 25 years.  I found this article fascinating, and hope you do, too.  [Click the link to read the entire article on Gizmodo.com.]

*UPDATE* Here's a link to another article about this.

Man Officially Cured of HIV
Doctors were savvy when they chose a stem cell donor for Brown. The man whose bone marrow they used has a particular genetic mutation, present in an incredibly small percentage of people, that makes him almost invulnerable to HIV. With Brown's own defenses decimated by treatments, the healthy, HIV-resistant donor cells repopulated his immune system. Three years later, having taken no antiretroviral drugs since the transplant, extensive testing shows no signs whatsoever of HIV.

Marine Commandant Spews More Hateful Garbage

Someone shut this idiot up.  Barry, why do you allow this person to continue serving under your command?  Last time I checked, you were still the Commander in Chief -- this guy works for you, and is directly contradicting your wishes and actively working against the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell -- a stated goal of yours.  How long are you going to continue to let him make you a chump?

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos Makes a Chump of the President

"Mistakes and inattention or distractions cost Marines lives," he said. "That's the currency of this fight. I take that very, very seriously," he added. "I don't want to lose any Marines to the distraction. I don't want to have any Marines that I'm visiting at Bethesda [National Naval Medical Center, in Maryland] with no legs be the result of any type of distraction."

An End to Funemployment...?

"Jell-O Collector"?  "Shredded Cheese Authority"?  "Pork Rind Expert"...??

If any of these places are hiring, I am ready to switch careers!!  :D

A Rant from 'The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs'

Here is a quote from a rant that I enjoyed.  I didn't write it myself, but I cant find anything in it with which I disagree.
It’s bad enough that you’re hateful bigots. But to dress up your hate and bigotry as an expression of Christianity? That, my friends, is pure evil. If you want to go around hating people, fine. Go for it. It’s stupid, and pointless, but whatever. Go hate people. Just don’t go around saying Jesus told you to do it.

The Three Indisputably Greatest Xmas Songs of All Time

Following on the heels of our Speedo-ed Santas, and since they got me into a holiday mood (among other moods...), I'm going to share with you the three greatest Xmas songs of all time.

If you disagree, you may name your own three greatest Xmas songs in the comments below.

But you will be wrong. ;D

All Things iPad/iPad2

Much of this blog is created on an iPad.  Although not a 100% Apple fanboy (my laptop is an HP, thank you very much!), anyone who knows me is aware that I tend to evangelize/proselytize about the iPhone 4 and iPad, both of which I snatched up the first day they came out.  (I stood in line for over 8 hours to get my iPhone 4!)  I bought my iPad thinking I would mainly use it to stream Netflix movies on the couch, so I could sit in the living room with my dog and relax with a good movie.  (There's no t.v. in the living room...which is a good thing.)  Tablet computers were a new concept for me, and I wasn't really sure what other uses I would have for one.

Once I got it home, however, and figured out all that I could do with it...I was hooked!  I now use my iPad for about 80% of my computing needs (most things other than those requiring Flash).  It is the first thing I look at when I wake up in the afternoon, and the last thing I look at when I go to sleep in the morning.  :D

Anyway, I'd like this blog to ALSO be about fun/cool tech things that I like or would like to explore (other than just the gay stuff you might have noticed so far...!), and I can't think of a better item with which to start.  Therefore, I present to you:

The Huffington Post's Ultimate Guide to iPad 2 Rumors

I'll be counting down the days until I can get my hands on this new toy!

One of the Gayest Videos Ever: Man Make-Up

Can you handle it?

Here's a video by a cute Facebook friend of mine (Doug Repetti). Don't assume you know what it's about based on the title!

David Bahati -- 'Ugandan Hitler'

Here, assembled in one place, are some recent comments I have made about David Bahati -- also known as Ugandan Hitler -- the member of the Ugandan parliament who is the author of the "Kill the Gays" bill. Some were made live while his interview was running on The Rachel Maddow Show.

---------------------------

This ignorant asshole thinks it's important that we "respect one another" as he tries to pass a law that murders people for being born gay. I don't respect you, I recognize you as the evil, human-garbage Hitler-wannabe that you are, and I look forward to meeting you in person very soon to let you feel up close and personally the channeled rage of every decent, intelligent person on earth.

---------------------------

Ugandan Hitler believes (and is trying to write into law) that Uganda's hatred should be able to reach out its ugly, withered claw into other sovereign nations to snatch up & pull back to Uganda citizens to be imprisoned for life for the crime of having sex w/a person of the same sex. Shame on the U.S. State Department for granting this man a visa to set foot on American soil to spread his murderous verbal garbage.

---------------------------

A word to the wise: when you have to repeat on national television over and over again "I am not involved in a hate campaign" & deny that you are Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein or Idi Amin, these should be subtle signs for the average person that you are doing something very wrong. As the kids are so fond of advising nowadays, 'check yourself before you wreck yourself.' You have some wicked bad juju headed your way.

---------------------------

This man is Jack Klenk. David Bahati, the Ugandan Hitler who wants to execute homosexuals in Uganda, stayed with Jack and his wife Linda while here in the U.S. I have spent the last couple of days on email and on conference calls with other activists, planning a surprise visit to the Klenk home, located at 10733 Green Drive, Lorton, VA 22079-3534, for early Friday morning. This evening, David Bahati unexpectedly slipped out of the country before that could happen. Mr. Klenk's phone number is listed as (703) 550-8728. Perhaps if you are a neighbor or friend of his, you could politely tell Mr. and Mrs. Klenk what you think of their opening their home to a murderous monster. I'm sure you will only do so in a friendly manner during normal daylight hours.

---------------------------

If he is ever granted another visa to set foot on American soil again, for any reason whatsoever, the U.S. Department of State will be our next target.

Mr. President, Please Sign Here

I call upon President Obama -- who has had this power from the minute he was sworn into office -- to end the persecution, harrassment, and firings of gay and lesbian American military heroes under the outdated and bigoted DADT law, as he promised to do THIS YEAR. Do it immediately, through Executive Order, regardless of the result of any Senate vote tonight. To have the power and refuse to use it makes you, sir, a liar and a coward.

--------------------------------

The American People, the U.S. courts, the House of Representatives, the military AND civilian leaders of the armed forces, the Commander in Chief/President of the United States, AND a majority of the U.S. Senate ALL AGREE that this policy m...ust end. But ONLY Obama can end the discharges immediately with the stroke of his pen.

The time has come. Sign the Executive Order. Or forever let it be a part of your legacy that you chose to perpetuate this hateful bigotry.

The Old Switcheroo

I think they should go ahead and pass the ridiculous Obama-McConnell tax giveaway for millionaires, then pass unemployment extension, repeal DADT, pass the Dream Act and UAFA and everything else they can think of. Then, as the last thing before leaving, PASS A NEW LAW REVOKING THE TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH.

If the Repiglicans manage to block it, just wait a week until they take control of the Senate, and filibuster EVERYTHING until they agree. Turnabout is fair play. :D

My iPads-in-the-National-Portrait-Gallery idea RUINED.

God this pisses me off. As you know, this was my idea. I posted about it widely at least three times before these people did this. Maybe it's theoretically possible that they had the same idea on their own, but considering that we have Facebook friend[s] in common, I doubt it.

The artist's video itself was already making the rounds on Facebook and email. My idea to show it in the gallery using iPads was about getting the artist's work out to the people visiting the exhibit, in the context of the other works. It was specifically designed to completely combat the idea that taxpayer dollars were being spent to show the video, the excuse used by the "Catholic League" and that one Republican Congressman to get the Smithsonian to censor the film. The museum could allow the video to be shown and have the plausible deniability that "we have nothing to do with it."

However, these two seem more interested in getting some kind of YouTube notoriety/celebrity for themselves than they do in getting the artist's work out there. The guards explicitly ALLOWED THE VIDEO TO BE SHOWN, exactly as I had proposed -- MY IDEA WORKED!! It was because these two chose to purposely violate the rules of the Museum by giving out their own literature AND obviously videotaping the patrons that the guards intervened. THE PAMPHLETS WERE THE PROBLEM. These two seem more interested in purposely provoking a confrontation with the guards for the purpose of videotaping themselves for YouTube than they do in getting the art out there. If they were really true to my idea, there would have been no pamphlets and no videotaping, AND THE ARTIST'S WORK WOULD STILL BE BEING SHOWN IN THE GALLERY.

What pisses me off is that I was already talking to the people handling the artist's estate about organizing a group of people to do this around the clock, the entire time the exhibit was running, and they were interested in pursuing it. Now, they feel like it has already been tried and failed, even though it hasn't been done the right way. These two jumped the gun, purposely provoked the guards with their pamphlets and video camera, and have ruined it for every person who visits that exhibit. Color me pissed off. One great idea of mine [if I do say so myself!] ruined so these two can have their YouTube fame.

Gay Zombies

Gaybashing Thugs in Fancy Suits

He is an educated man. He is wearing a suit. He is speaking politely. But the man standing at the podium arguing to destroy marriages between people who love each other is no different than your normal, everyday hate & rage-fueled gaybasher.

His arguments are attempting to do with words what the KKK does with a burning cross or a noose. He is attempting to rip families apart, to destroy human lives, and to brand as less-than-human an entire class of people, and to deny those people equal rights under the law. He is a liar. He is a bigot. He is a homophobe. And his time is long past. He will lose, and decent people will shun him for the rest of his life.

Our equality is now something that no law, no court, and no bigot in a white hood or a fancy suit will ever be able to deny us again. Our time is now.
